JOCKFALL FVO

The average weight of the salmon is very high, and salmon weighing up to 10 kg are common. Every year, several salmon weighing over 20 kg climb the falls. There are also plenty of trout, lavaret and grayling in the River Kalix. The River Kalix is a nationally protected river where you fish only naturally occurring species. Jockfall is ranked by many as one of the best angling sites in Europe.

At Jockfall there is a salmon ladder that makes it easier for the salmon to climb to their spawning grounds. It is an experience in itself to watch the salmon rising in the salmon ladder. There is also a webcam installed in the salmon ladder. Through it, you can follow the wonder of the salmon’s progress by television from the restaurant. In the restaurant you can enjoy a good meal while watching the salmon migration.

FISHING RULES

Fishing at Jockfall is from the shore using either a fly rod or spinner. In order to offer fishing as enjoyable as possible, each side of the river alternates between fly and spinner. The sides are changed every day. One salmon per angler a day may be kept. In Jockfall there is a complete ban on sinkers when spinner fishing. Fishing with a float is permitted. When fishing at Jockfall the method used for both fly fishing and spinner fishing is one step, one cast.

FISHING SEASON

The salmon fishing season starts at the end of May and continues until the end of August. The best time for salmon angling is from the week before Midsummer (which falls on 24 June) to the end of August. The best time for grayling is at the beginning of the season, when the water is coldest. There are always plenty of grayling in the area. We recommend that when you arrive at Jockfall, you bring a one-hand rod and grayling flies.

FISHING TACKLE

We recommend a sturdy 13-15 foot two-hand rod for fly fishing. Reels should take at least 200 m of backing line. The same applies for spinner fishing – sturdy 12-15 foot rods, large spool reels or multiplier reels with room for up to 200 m of line. We recommend line 0.45 mm up to 0.60 mm in thickness. Later in the season, when smaller salmon arrive, lighter tackle will also work.
